Making Known The Wondrous Name Of Christ Jesus

By Lois J. Stucky

The Apostle Paul, having been uniquely called of God to preach among the Gentiles "the unsearchable riches of Christ" (Eph. 3:8), felt himself totally undeserving of such a calling, but he had a very lofty vision of it. To make known to the Gentiles this Lord Jesus Christ whose love and grace had fully captured his own heart became the consuming passion of the Apostle Paul’s life. What an example he set for us! To a lesser degree and to varying degrees, all believers in Christ are stewards to make known the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We have all been endowed by God with some means whereby we can help make known our Lord and the truth and treasures that He embodies.

Oh, this beloved Lord Jesus Christ and what He has done for mankind! In Him believers have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins; by Him were all things created and are sustained. He is the head of the body, the church, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He might have the preeminence. Once believers were alienated and enemies, but through Christ’s death and resurrection we are now made near to God, even seated with Christ in heavenly places. We have His abiding presence within and He is our hope of glory and of eternal life. It is impossible with our few words to encompass all the treasure hidden in our blessed Redeemer, but this is a glimpse of the One we are privileged to know in an ever nearer and dearer way and to make known to the ends of the earth! To Him be praise and dominion for ever and ever!

I must ask myself if I have duly sought Him for where He would use me to help fulfill His plan that this Gospel go into all the world? Am I proving a faithful steward of the true and glorious riches of the Gospel of Christ which He has lavished upon me?

From time to time there will come into Herald of His Coming office through the pages of a letter, an individual who was born into one of the large non-Christian religions in the world. This person writes that he found the religion into which he was born was not meeting the needs of his life and he began to investigate other religions. All the while he was simply wandering deeper into a muddled darkness. Such a contact is a fresh, jolting reminder of the millions, yes, the billions, who live and die in spiritual darkness! How deeply grieved must be the heart of God who would have "all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Tim. 2:4-5). What concern do I have for those who thus live and die in the hopelessness of spiritual darkness?

Here at Herald of His Coming, we welcome partners to help send the printed Gospel to many areas of the world, shining afar the glorious light of the Gospel of Christ. Each month volunteers come in from the local community to help prepare the next issue of Herald of His Coming for mailing. A great number of the envelopes they fill are addressed to countries in Africa; some to the Philippines; Indonesia; Canada; United Kingdom; the West Indies; a scattering throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Orient; and a good number to Latin America when a quarterly mailing of the Spanish Herald is made along with the English. These volunteers are not just doing a "job" as they work together; they are rendering love-service to the Lord of the Harvest for it is He who puts a glad willingness in their hearts to share what is precious to them.

Equally part of the team are those whose faithful gifts come month after month, helping pay for the postage to send these paper messengers on their mission and for other necessary expenses. Only God could inspire and enable such faithfulness as we see in the financial stewardship of some. And the Lord takes loving note of the sacrificial gifts that reveal a devoted heart doing even more than able.

And, O friends, please do take to heart the articles in this issue on prayer! Inspired by them, can we make a fresh effort in prayer for God to empower all the work of our hands and hearts as we partner together? Please help us intercede for fresh blessing upon and through Herald of His Coming and every godly ministry helping to give forth the glorious light of the Gospel and make known the Name of our wondrous Lord Jesus Christ! Thank you!
