Prepare The Way For Revival!
By Rich Carmicheal
This issue of Herald of His Coming is sobering. Alarms are sounding and it is time to wake up. While the messages focus especially on the dire spiritual condition of the United States, they apply to other nations as well. Certainly world news such as the war in Syria, the fighting in Gaza, the spread of Islam including radical and brutal elements such as ISIS, the aggressiveness of Russia, the killing in Iraq, the evil intentions of Iran against Israel, along with growing anti-Semitism in the U.S. and beyond, all indicate how serious this hour is. And along with such grave matters as these are issues such as violent crime, human trafficking, corruption, hunger, economic crisis, disease, intense natural disasters, and so forth.
Although signs are pointing to the end of the age and the soon return of Christ, it is sad that many of God’s people are not recognizing or responding to this crucial hour. During His public ministry Jesus was amazed that people could understand signs related to weather, but did not understand the signs of the times. For example, He said to the religious leaders, "When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?" (Matt. 16:2-3). On another occasion He made this rebuke: "You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but why do you not analyze this present time?" (Luke 12:56).
Hopefully, you are alert and aware. If so, it is time to focus as much as possible on intercession and the work of the Lord.
There Is Still Hope!
In Ezra’s day, spiritual and national conditions were also very serious, so much so that Ezra tore his garments, pulled out some of the hair from his head and beard, prostrated himself before the Lord, and wept and confessed the sin of the people. A large assembly of men, women and children gathered with him and also wept bitterly. But in the midst of their tremendous grief, Shecaniah reminded the people that in spite of their unfaithfulness to God, there was still hope! (Ezra 10:2). He encouraged Ezra, "Arise! For this matter is your responsibility, but we will be with you; be courageous and act" (v. 4). Ezra and the people took this word of encouragement to heart, and under his leadership the people repented to avert the judgment of God.
It is time now for the people of God to arise, to be courageous and act! The alarms that are sounding are not calls to retreat, but calls to seek the Lord and His purposes. In days of calamity, the Lord calls His people to rally: "When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land" (2 Chr. 7:13-14).
There is still hope for the Lord’s intervention. There is still hope for the lost to be saved. There is still hope for repentance and revival in the church. The desire of the Lord’s heart is to pour out salvation, repentance and His Spirit upon many people in these last days. You and I have the responsibility and privilege of helping prepare the way for a great stirring from heaven by standing in the gap through intercession and bold ministry!
Pray for Herald of His Coming
Please join the Herald staff in praying for the Lord’s provision of very strong, clear, timely, Word-centered and soul-stirring messages in these critical days. Pray also for His anointing upon Herald messages so that they work powerfully in and through the lives of readers. Please pray as well for the Lord’s increased provision so that the outreach of the ministry can increase in this crucial hour.
Special Prayer Needed
We are sorry to share the news with you that our dear sister Lois Stucky drew her final breath in this life on August 22nd following a very short illness. While we take great comfort in knowing that she is home with the Lord, we will miss her dearly as a sister in the Lord and as a co-worker in the Herald ministry. As we mention on page 9, we plan to share a tribute to her life and ministry in the next issue of the Herald. Please keep the staff members in your prayers as we grieve the loss of Lois, while yet needing to press on in the Herald ministry.
We will appreciate your prayers, encouragement and support as much as ever. We hope to hear from you soon.
