Jesus – The One Who Is Coming Again
By Rich Carmicheal
"[Christ] having been offered once to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time for salvation…to those who eagerly await Him" (Heb. 9:28).
In our desire to understand the Second Coming, we tend to concentrate upon the timing and the events associated with it. While there is value in considering the when, what and how of the Second Coming, our main focus should always be upon Who is returning. Jesus is coming again. Jesus...
...the One who is "the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation" (Col. 1:15); the radiance of God’s glory (Heb. 1:3).
...the One by whom "all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities…" (Col. 1:16).
...the One who is before all things and in whom all things hold together (Col. 1:17); "…the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End" (Rev. 22:13).
...the One who is preeminent in all things (Col. 1:18), whom God has exalted to the highest place and given a name which is above every name (Phil. 2:9).
...the One who has all authority in heaven and on earth (Matt. 28:18) and who "upholds all things by the word of His power" (Heb. 1:3).
...the One who disarmed the principalities and powers, destroyed the devil’s work, and overcame the world (Col. 2:15; 1 John 3:8; John 16:33).
…the One who is "the Resurrection and the Life" (John 11:25); the Living One, who was dead and is alive forevermore, and who holds the keys of death and Hades (Rev. 1:18); the One "who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel" (2 Tim. 1:10).
...the "Lord of lords and King of kings" (Rev. 17:14); the One who "is called Faithful and True" and who in righteousness judges and wages war (Rev. 19:11); the One whose "eyes are a flame of fire, and upon His head are many diadems" (Rev. 19:12); the One "clothed with a robe dipped in blood; and His name is called The Word of God" (v. 13).
…the One who "shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God..." (2 Thes. 1:7-8).
...the One who will "be glorified in His saints on that Day, and…be marveled at among all who have believed" (v. 10).
...the "Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matt. 16:16), who as a Son is faithful over all of God’s house (Heb. 3:6); the One who is "head of the body, the church" (Col. 1:18).
…the One who is "the Way, and the Truth, and the Life," and the only means to the Father (John 14:6; Acts 4:12); the One who is our life, our source of eternal salvation, and the author and perfector of our faith (Col. 3:4; Heb. 5:9; 12:2).
...the One who loves us and "who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us out of this present evil age" (Gal. 1:4) and from the coming wrath (1 Thes. 1:10; Rev. 1:5); the One who "for the joy set before Him endured the Cross, despising the shame" (Heb. 12:2).
…the Lamb of God who was slain, and with His precious blood redeemed us out of "every tribe and tongue and people and nation" (Rev. 5:9); the Lamb who is worthy "to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing" (Rev. 5:12).
…the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls (1 Pet. 2:25), who has power to transform our bodies so that they will be like His glorious body (Phil. 3:21).
…the Bridegroom returning "in the glory of His Father with His angels" (Matt. 16:27; 9:15); the One worshipped by all the angels of God (Heb. 1:6); the One "crowned with glory and honor," whose throne is forever and ever, and to whom belongs the glory forever and ever (Heb. 1:8; 2:9; 13:21).
That is Who is coming. Jesus is coming! How marvelous the Day will be for those who are prepared to meet Him!
Jesus says, "Yes, I am coming quickly." And we say, "Amen. Come, Lord Jesus" (Rev. 22:20).
