Making A Difference
By Lois J. Stucky
How challenging are the articles in this issue, encouraging us in our witnessing for the Lord! It seems that over and over we need to be "put…in remembrance" as Peter expressed it, of things that we know but so easily neglect or take too lightly or become careless about (2 Pet. 1:12-13).
The Apostle Paul held it a high privilege and responsibility to be put in trust with the Gospel. He speaks of "the glorious Gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust" (1 Tim. 1:11). Although none of us have the unique, far-reaching preaching/teaching ministry of the Apostle Paul, we who have received and believed "the glorious Gospel" are accountable to God to share it. Might we too have such a keen sense of our calling that it will draw us to prayer again and again that we will be ready and willing to share when the opportunity comes to us – often such a fleeting opportunity that only God can make us able to grasp it.
Think of how grievous it must be to God when He directs a soul our way, wanting us to plant a Gospel seed, or perhaps even to be His instrument to lead that one into His kingdom – and we miss the opportunity which might have made a difference in that life for eternity. God forgive us and help us!
Jesus, the True Light of this dark world of sin, faithfully fulfilled His mission. As a result we are no longer lost in the darkness of sin. Jesus tells His followers that through their knowledge of Him, they, too, are light in this world and He bids us not to hide that light (Matt. 5:14-16).
Witnessing begins deeper in our being than simply having words on our lips to speak. Jesus tells us that it is "out of the abundance of the heart" that the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). It is the Holy Spirit who is the wisdom and power of our witness. The love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit is the motivation to gladly share the "true riches" of the Gospel. How much we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit in order to be a vessel God can use to make a difference in the lives of others!
Some of us find that Gospel literature given with a few words of introduction or encouragement is a helpful way to share the blessed Good News. If it would be useful to your witness, you are welcome to write us for copies of RIGHT CHOICE salvation herald to distribute, suggesting the number of copies you can effectively and prayerfully use.
Dear friends, we treasure so greatly your fellowship with us in the Herald of His Coming ministry of sending out the printed Gospel. You send necessary funds, you pray for the ministry, you write encouraging notes, you enlarge the outreach by sharing your paper or requesting a supply of papers to distribute, you send names of new friends for the mailing list, etc. The local volunteers come without fail several days a month to prepare many of the mailings.
Dear ones, we consider you one with us in this ministry. We are united in Christ and united with one another in the bonds of divine love. You have committed yourself as we have here to serve our beloved Lord by sharing His glorious Gospel. Let us continue striving together to make an eternal difference in hearts and lives about us and throughout the world – "and so much the more, as [we] see the day approaching" (Heb. 10:25).
