Wonderful Words Of Life And Truth
By Lois J. Stucky
One of the "I Agree" statements which Richard Owen Roberts exhorts us to prayerfully consider is "regular Bible study and devotional reading of [God’s] Word" in order that we may be pleasing in His sight and equipped "for godly living in this godless world." Who can deny that this is essential for personal revival in our lives?
In Luke 5:1 we read that when the Lord Jesus Christ was here on earth, the people "pressed upon Him to hear the Word of God." Do we not wish for people in this hour to be as eager to hear the Word of God – and then to obey it? But oh, how many are the cares and pleasures and distractions of today’s world that claim man’s attention and crowd out due time for a life-transforming concentration on the Word of God!
I am very grateful that my mother started me on daily Bible reading when I was first saved, about twelve years of age, and one of my sweetest memories of her is seeing her sitting in a comfortable chair in the living room, early in the day, with the open Bible in her lap. I am grateful to the Sunday school and vacation Bible school teachers who urged us as children to memorize choice Scripture passages and rewarded us when we did so. Parents, whatever else may have to fall by the wayside to make time for it, the daily gathering in your home for reading the Word and prayer will give that which is of richest eternal value to the family God has entrusted into your care.
The Word of God Is Truth
The Lord Jesus Christ in the last hours with His disciples before His crucifixion, in the passionate prayer that flowed from the depths of His heart, said to His Father, "Thy Word is truth." He pleaded, "Sanctify them through Thy truth…for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth" (John 17:17, 19). The godly living that glorifies a holy God comes through obedience to the truths of God’s Word.
The Apostle Paul in speaking of the last perilous days spoke of those who have no comprehension of the truth and who resist the truth. Do we not see this happening now? There are some who disregard or deliberately discard God’s Holy Word, vigorously opposing the Word as well as Christians who faithfully hold to it. But oh, one day they will be judged by that Word! "He that rejecteth Me, and receiveth not My words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day" (John 12:48).
Satan, the great deceiver, is very active in this day. Let us take heed to, pay close attention to, and immerse ourselves daily in God’s Word. It is pure truth. And beware lest we deceive ourselves! We are cautioned about this in such verses as First Corinthians 3:18, First John 1:8 and Galatians 6:3.
We trust that you friends who unite with us to keep a regular outflow of Herald of His Coming and the Salvation heralds find joy as we do in sharing far and wide the blessed Word of Life and Truth. What a privilege and responsibility it is to have so available the pure truths of the Word of God, to believe them wholeheartedly, to have God’s help in obeying them and to share them freely! Please continue to join your faith and prayers with ours for God’s full blessing upon the Word as it goes forth in Herald messages, that it will not return void, that it will accomplish that which God pleases and that it will prosper in that whereunto it is sent, bearing much fruit for His glory (Isa. 55:10-11).
