Hearts United For Revival
By Lois J. Stucky
The message on the front page of this issue, "God Coming Down!" is at the heart of Herald of His Coming’s mission. This article is excerpted from a small booklet entitled Revival Flames, long out of print. In the latter half of the 1930’s Willard C. Moore was distributing copies of Revival Flames in Los Angeles, to stir others with a message that throbbed in his heart. The booklet was a strong exhortation to lay hold of God in prayer and believe Him to manifest His presence in mighty revival. A copy of Revival Flames came into the hands of Sarah E. Foulkes who was also living in Los Angeles. She was a devout woman who felt called to "stand in the gap" interceding for wayward mankind (Ezek. 22:30). The message of the booklet fueled the flame burning in her heart. She promptly wrote for copies of Revival Flames to share with a small group of ladies with whom she prayed. Brother Moore delivered the booklets to her in person. Under the guiding hand of God, this contact grew into a friendship that led to their marriage in 1937 and to the beginning of the publication of Herald of His Coming in 1941.
The article "God Coming Down" from the booklet was printed in one of the earliest issues of Herald of His Coming, and it has been repeated many times since to keep the challenge ever before the readers. Stirring words in Revival Flames read: "Do we really WANT a revival? Are we willing to pay a reasonable price for a revival? If we want God to come down – we must meet HIS conditions and ASK (without fainting) for Him to come down…. We can have a revival but we must go after it and expect God to answer prayer – and we must keep at it UNTIL God answers and pours out His Spirit."
Those of us who had the privilege of working alongside Brother and Sister Moore in the Herald of His Coming ministry until He called them to their rest can bear witness to the fact that they literally laid down their lives in devoted service and passionate prayer to God for the revival of His church and the evangelization of the lost. Perceiving that the return of the Lord Jesus was drawing near added urgency to their mission, for Matthew chapter 25 spoke to them of a "lamp-trimming revival" that would prepare the church to be ready for Christ’s return. "Watch ye therefore, and pray always" (Luke 21:36) were words of our Lord that spurred them onward in leading a charge for revival.
God has given other helpful articles in this issue of Herald of His Coming to encourage any whose faith and prayers for revival may be waning or who may feel their lack of needed fervency in their praying. To some reading this issue the challenge to pray for revival might be new. All such could profit from taking this issue to a time of personal prayer. It is not easy to be a lone prayer warrior because the devil opposes anyone who sets himself to earnest prayer. But God tells us in His Word: "Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart" (Psa. 27:14), and we are promised the help of the blessed Holy Spirit in prayer (Rom. 8:26). In addition to your prayer times alone, you may be able to find a prayer group to join, or you could ask God to supply a prayer partner who has a burden for revival. Husband and wife praying together is ideal, or two Christian sisters or two Christian brothers if only two meet together.
Please Pray for Herald of His Coming
To the glory of God, Herald of His Coming has entered its 70th year of publication! No one but God can number the saints who have united in heart to carry the Herald ministry to this point! Some have labored in person in the ministry; some have given with remarkable faithfulness and generosity of their funds; some have offered prayers of faith day after day, year after year and are still continuing to do so though frail in body. Some have taken upon themselves the task of receiving and distributing packages of Herald papers to extend the ministry farther than we might imagine. All is written in God’s book of remembrance and will be recalled in the day when every man’s work will be tried and due rewards be dispensed (1 Cor. 3:14). In the meantime, we express to every heart involved our warm thanks and deep appreciation and ask God’s rich blessing upon you. And to God, who raised up Herald of His Coming ministry and has inspired and enabled all the input to sustain it, we give the hardiest of thanks and praise and lay all the fruit at His worthy feet!
Please continue to stand with the Herald ministry in prayer, that it might accomplish all God raised it up to do. Ask for fresh, holy anointing on each new edition. Uniting as one, let us help make known His worthy name around the world and help prepare the way for the coming again of Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords!
