Christ Is Coming Again!

  By Lee Roberson

Our Savior left us a promise about His coming again. He said, "…I will come again…" (John 14:3).

He urged men in His earthly ministry, and He urges us today, to be ready for His coming: "Watch therefore; for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come" (Matt. 24:42). "Watch therefore; for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh" (Matt. 25:13).

Christians of the first century looked for the return of Christ. They were watching and waiting for His coming. They were determined to be in readiness at the glad hour. They were so enraptured by the thought of His return that some were greatly puzzled by the death of loved ones. Hence we find the apostle Paul writing to the church in Thessalonica and encouraging them to go on in their belief in the return of Christ, and to remember that when the Savior comes, the dead in Christ shall rise first (1 Thes. 4:13-18).

The blessings of God continue upon the church that holds to the second coming of Jesus Christ. This was certainly true in the first century, when they witnessed with power and many were saved. When Christians of this day believe in Christ’s return, certain, definite things take place. First, there will be separation from the world: "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as He is pure" (1 John 3:2-3).

Again, when Christians are looking for the return of Christ, they are busy at the great work of soul winning. A job has been given to us to do. It must be carried out between the time of the ascension of our Savior and the rapture of the saints. We are now in that period. It is for us to obey Him and to go and preach the Gospel and win souls. We must tell the good news everywhere of Christ the Savior and of His promised return.

This World Is Not All!

The return of Jesus Christ brings hope to the Christian. How pitiful it is when we come to think that this world is all! What a depressing thought is this! No, my Christian friend, this world is not all. We face an exciting future. The Savior is coming, and we shall be caught up into His presence and we shall see Christ face to face. His promise has been given. "…I will come again," said the Lord Jesus. We are to be watching for this hour, and the truth of His return should make us alert and busy in the service of Christ.
