Faithful Until He Comes
By Rich Carmicheal
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! How joyous I am as I begin my work as the new publisher of the Herald of His Coming. What a privilege it is to be working with a ministry that the Lord has raised up and so richly blessed these past fifty-eight years. And what an honor it is to link arms with you through the printed page, through correspondence and through prayer as we serve the Lord in this crucial hour and ready ourselves for His return.
Each day I grow more amazed at how much the Lord is doing through the ministry of the Herald. We regularly receive mail from all around the world testifying to the impact that this ministry is making in the lives of the readers of the Herald’s publications. Although I have worked with the Herald for just a short time, I am beginning to understand some of the reasons why the Lord’s abundant blessings have been and continue to be upon this ministry. In this message (my first "message from the publisher"), I want to share several of those reasons with you.
A True and Timely Message
From the onset in 1941, the purpose of the Herald has been to help prepare the church worldwide to be ready to meet Christ at His coming. To that end, the messages printed in the Herald (as well as the other publications available through this ministry) have consistently stressed the need for repentance, revival, prayer and world evangelization. In a day when some ministries have watered down spiritual truths, the Herald has continued to be faithful to God’s Word and His message for the church. I believe that the Lord has richly blessed the Herald because the various publishers and editors have consistently honored the Lord by printing material that is true to His Word.
Not only is the message of the Herald in harmony with the Lord’s Word, but it is also a timely message. We are living in the last days and the final day is rapidly approaching. The Lord will return for a holy bride and He is using the Herald as one of His instruments to help prepare the church as His return draws near.
The Power of Prayer
Another major reason for the Lord’s blessing upon this ministry is that vast amounts of prayer have continually undergirded the Herald. The ministry was birthed in prayer in 1941 and prayer has continued to be the heartbeat of the ministry. The workers and supporters of the Herald have consistently prayed for revival in the church and for the salvation of the lost. They have also faithfully sought the Lord’s blessing upon the messages in the Herald as well as His provision for the various needs of the ministry.
I thank the Lord that the Herald continues to be bathed in much prayer. Your letters remind us daily that you are praying for this ministry. Together, we pour our hearts out to God as we seek His will, His blessing, His guidance and His provision. We continue to pray for revival throughout the world. And we faithfully lift up one another in prayer. What an encouragement it is to us to know that you are praying for us, and what a privilege it is for us to pray for you as you write and share your requests with us.
Faithful, Generous Supporters
I believe that another reason why the Lord has blessed this ministry is because He is pleased with the many faithful and generous supporters of the Herald. I am amazed each day as we receive your letters of encouragement and your financial contributions. Although I am still very new to the work, I can clearly discern from your letters and gifts that many of you are faithful partners of this ministry. Your letters and gifts reflect your love for God’s Word, your desire that His truth be proclaimed throughout the world, your longing for revival and your burden for family and friends. The Lord most certainly is blessing this ministry because of your faithful devotion to this work.
Faithful Workers Throughout the World
I believe the Lord is also blessing this ministry in response to the many faithful Herald workers. Since the very beginning, the ministry has been blessed by people willing to work hard for the Lord. And today there continues to be a host of people throughout the world who are working diligently and sacrificially in order to edit, translate and distribute the Herald. O let us continually give thanks to the Lord for the way He is coordinating this wonderful ministry all around the world.
The Lord’s Love
Of course, the most foundational reason for the Lord’s blessing on this ministry, as well as other God-centered ministries, is His love for people. His very nature leads Him to bless the efforts of His people as they strive to bless others. One of the clearest teachings in Scripture is that God loves people and that He desires that everyone enjoy eternal life with Him. The Apostle Paul informs us that God "...wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4). Likewise, the Apostle Peter writes that the Lord does not want "...anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). The Lord blesses the work of His people because of His tremendous desire that His message and His love be shared with all people.
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good..." (Psalm 107:1).
I begin my work with the Herald with the firm conviction that the Lord wants us to faithfully continue, and even intensify, our efforts to distribute His message throughout the world. His return is nearer than ever and the need for the church to prepare is as great as ever.
With all these things in mind, I want to thank you for your partnership in this ministry. Thank you for your prayers. Thank you for your letters of encouragement. Thank you for your financial gifts that enable this ministry to reach out all over the world. Thank you for your love for God’s Word.
I also want to take this opportunity to challenge you to devote yourself more than ever to prayer and to the work of the Lord. The time is short. As the Apostle Peter writes, "The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray" (1 Peter 4:7). Friends, it is time to pray, pray, pray! God is calling the church to prayer. We need to pray for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. We need to pray for countries, for leaders, for ministries, for one another and for the salvation of the lost. We need to pray for revival. We need to spend time with our Heavenly Father seeking His divine resources for our lives and ministries in these last days.
And let us pour ourselves wholeheartedly into the work the Lord has entrusted to us. As the Apostle Paul writes, "...Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain" (1 Cor. 15:58). The work we do for the Lord is work that reaches beyond this present age and into the age to come. Our work helps affect people’s lives for all of eternity. Let us be diligent and faithful to His work as we await His return. What an indescribable joy it will be to one day hear the Lord say, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
What an important task the Lord has entrusted to us. Let us pray intensely, study diligently, work faithfully and share generously. May the Lord continue to accomplish His good work through us.
"To Him be glory both now and forever!"
