Working Together Through Prayer
By Rich Carmicheal
"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints" (Ephesians 6:18).
"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ..." (Colossians 4:2-3).
"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone..." (1 Timothy 2:1).
"I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me" (Romans 15:30).
This issue of the Herald of His Coming focuses upon the theme of united prayer. I hope that the articles inspire and motivate you to spend more time in prayer with other Christians as well as on your own on behalf of others. As Oswald Chambers stated in his devotional classic My Utmost For His Highest, "Prayer does not fit us for the greater works; prayer is the greater work."
I want to especially encourage you to devote more time in prayer on behalf of the work of Herald International. I am now in my fourth month of working with Herald, and with each passing day, I am learning more about our dear brothers and sisters in other countries who are working faithfully and diligently to publish and distribute the Herald in about twenty different languages. I am filled with admiration and thanksgiving for their devotion to the Lord and their desire to bless the church through their work (many of them are working with limited resources and under difficult circumstances). I encourage you to look carefully and prayerfully at page 10 and intercede for the workers represented by the various International addresses.
Of course we also continue to seek your prayers for our office in Indiana. Pray especially that the Lord will guide us and add His blessing to every paper that we publish. Our desire is that spiritual life will flow abundantly through this ministry and strengthen the church worldwide. To that end, we rely upon your prayers.
I want to also share with you how greatly we enjoy the letters we receive from Herald readers. If you have not written us recently, I encourage you to do so. We appreciate the opportunity to learn more about you and to join with you in prayer. We consider it a tremendous privilege to be linked with you in this ministry.
