Filling Up The Prayer Ranks

By Lois J. Stucky

About a year ago we encouraged Herald of His Coming readers who had this ministry on their hearts, to make a commitment to pray daily for Herald of His Coming for one year and to let us know their intention. We designated these friends as the Herald Prayer Force. Several times through the year, we sent specific requests that they might pray more to the point for needs here.

With a heart of gratitude we thank each one who stood with us as part of the Herald Prayer Force. We cannot always say points one, two and three were answered. But we are very aware of being sustained with courage, faith and strength in the work of God because of these upholding prayers. Time and time again special help is given us in our duties, or an added measure of grace in time of trial, or letters come telling of a blessed work wrought in hearts by the Holy Spirit through the messages. "Someone is praying!" is the glad thought that comes to us at times such as these. We thank God and we thank you praying friends. You may be many miles away from us physically, but prayer knows no distance. The God you are praying to is the God who sees needs and comes to give almighty assistance. How blessed are the ties that bind our hearts in Christian love!

Because you made commitment this past year to pray for Herald of His Coming daily as God enabled, we will not presume that it will be possible for you to do so in the coming year. May we please hear from you if we may count you in on the Herald Prayer Force for another year? We welcome newcomers to write us also. Your prayer support will be much appreciated. Ordinarily, the more praying, the more God is able to do. Some of you express the desire to help more in Herald of His Coming ministry. Taking a place in the prayer ranks is a vital way to help.

Our great desire is to be effective and to bring forth ever more fruit for the glory of God. Whether you feel to commit to daily prayer or not, will you pray along that line for Herald of His Coming right now? Thank you.

Powerful Prayer for Ourselves and Others

We encourage each reader to strive to become ever more faithful in prayer. This is not just for the sake of what we may obtain from God, nor for help we might get for solving our problems, but for the fellowship we can have with God. God needs time with us to do in us all that He purposes for us.

Look at the prayer in Psalm 51:10: "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." This is a powerful prayer, because we pray to a powerful God. We pray to a God who is able to create a pure and a clean heart. Have we not at times felt despair over the corruption we have found in our hearts? Have we not earnestly wanted to have a heart and spirit that are pure and clean and Christlike? Have we not found it utterly impossible to achieve this on our own?

But God can create in us a clean heart. Oh, the wonder of His creations! Think of this universe that He created by the Word of His power. It would take more than a lifetime of study to cover His marvelous creation, from the exquisite beauty of the tiny desert flower to the majestic rolling sea or the spectacular, flaming sunset. There are countless marvels and wonders that have come from God.

It is this same great creator God who can create in you and in me a clean heart and a right spirit. God has made wonderful provision through the Blood of Jesus Christ His Son, which cleanses from all sin. But we must avail ourselves of it. We must wait humbly before God for Him to work in us all that He would desire to do in us. His first work is often to let us come to humbling despair of self-effort, and an earnest crying out to Him for His mighty work in us.

When God finished His first-week creation, He saw that "it was very good." Ah, would not we all like to hear Him say of His work in us that He saw it to be very good? It is the opinion of God that we want, not the opinion of man. It is the opinion of God that will count on judgment day. It is tragic but true that some will be deceived about themselves right up to judgment day. Oh, might we hunger and thirst now for the clean heart and the right spirit, and seek until we find. We have His very encouraging Word that if we seek with all our heart, we will find! (Jeremiah 29:13). If we knock it will be opened (Matthew 7:7).

Might we make it a matter of earnest search for the clean heart and the right spirit that will make us individually and make the Church as a whole the Bride without spot and wrinkle, ready for the coming Bridegroom. Might we strive to be in the number of those who are the delight of the Bridegroom’s heart because of God’s working within us unworthy creatures of clay to make us fit for such an honored and exalted calling and place.

We are sometimes utterly appalled when we read of the evil some people do to other people. It is unbelievable the depths of degradation and hatred in the human heart apart from God and what that may lead to. It seems doubly tragic that had the Church been active in her witness, some who have committed most awful atrocities could have been shining stars in the Kingdom of God. They could have been rescued from sin’s depths by the power of God had they had the gospel opportunity that others of us have had.

Let us pray earnestly for the Church, that she will hunger and thirst after righteousness and cry out to God for a clean, pure heart and a right spirit within her. And then pray she will go forth in zeal and love to tell others to come to the blessed Fountain filled with the cleansing Blood of Jesus.

Our Lord Jesus may come again soon. We dare not put off seeking God till a more convenient time lest we be too late! The Bride "hath made herself ready" (Revelation 19:7). Let us give ample thought and prayer and effort to what that means for us individually. Jesus Himself said, "Be ye also ready: for in such an hour as you think not the Son of man cometh" (Matt. 24:44). What is Jesus speaking to you and to me through that Word? Our love for Jesus will dictate the answer.

Praise God with Us

    * That each of us reading this has opportunity to take a part in some way in the wonderful work God is doing in the earth in this very crucial hour. No matter how we may be handicapped as far as some forms of service are concerned, we can each one participate through prayer.

Please Pray with Us

    * That many Jewish souls will be saved through faith in Christ.

    * That God will greatly use this issue of Herald of His Coming to generate faith, prayer and action for the revival so urgently needed.

    * That God will direct revival-minded workers of His choice to join the ranks of the Herald of His Coming staff. There is need at this time in the area of administration.

    * For the good number of readers who have written for Salvation heralds to distribute, that they will prayerfully give them out and that many souls from many countries will be added to the Kingdom of God as a result.

"Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the Lord have created it" (Isaiah 45:8).
