To Prayer! To Burdened Prayer For God’s Spirit To Move!
By W. C. Moore
Trouble on the right hand! Defeat on the left! Rifts, divisions among even earnest Christians! Petty annoyances! Laziness! Lukewarmness! It is time to pray through – until the Holy Spirit comes upon us in such convicting power that we will have no heart to point the finger of criticism at anyone on earth – until we, ourselves, are filled with the Holy Ghost! (Isa. 58:9-12; Eph. 5:18).
"Now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness...." (Joel 2:12-13).
But who is turning to God with ALL his heart? Who is weeping and mourning because of all the sins that are engulfing the whole world? (1 John 5:19). We are so very busy worrying and fretting about a lot of little petty troubles, and our time is so spent in grieving about our own failures and the real or supposed failures of other Christians, that we have little strength or desire left to apply the remedy – namely, to buckle down to earnest, fasting, travailing prayer, in the Holy Ghost, until the Holy Spirit is again poured out! May God in mercy, forgive us and help us, for Jesus' sake!
There will always be troubles while we tread this pilgrim pathway. Our Lord Jesus has promised us that this shall be. "These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).
Instead of spending our time and strength fretting and worrying over troubles – which the Lord has promised shall be, it is up to each and every one of us, who have been born again, to be of good cheer – trust the Lord to work things out – while we ourselves heed the Holy Spirit's urgent call in Joel 2:12-13, to fasting, weeping prayer!
Then as we pray the Holy Spirit on the scene, in convicting power, troubles will be handled in God's own way, difficulties will be adjusted by the Spirit of God – people will be so very busy praying, witnessing, testifying that they will have neither heart nor time to worry or fret about anything.
Witness the revival on the Day of Pentecost. Witness the Welsh Revival in 1904-05, where people packed the churches day and night, where the churches never closed for even one hour out of the 24, God can do it again and on a larger, more universal, more mighty and powerful scale! Pray for revival!
We busy folk in this age of rush just do not seem to have time to pray until we are weeping and mourning out our hearts before our loving Heavenly Father. But God is not changing His terms. He calls for us to put everything we have into this matter of praying for a Holy Ghost revival.
If the stark terror of conditions in the whole world today, and even in our own blessed land – do not drive us to real prayer – we are almost beyond hope! God help us! With all my heart I pray, "Oh God, in Jesus' mighty Name, help us!"
"Gather the people...Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, WEEP between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare Thy people, O Lord, and give not Thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God? Then will the Lord be jealous for His land, and pity His people. Yea, the Lord will answer..." (Joel 2:16-19).
"And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten...and My people shall never be ashamed...And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh..." (Joel 2:25-26, 28).
