God's Plan Works!
By C. B. Archer
A pastor and his wife were faithful in prayer and fasting, and then enlisted their church in the same. Results....
1. Forgiving and asking forgiveness became easy.
2. Criticism disappeared.
3. Some, who had stopped coming to services started back.
4. Optimism was evident throughout the church.
5. New families in the community became interested.
6. Offerings increased.
7. Attendance increased in all services.
8. More were saved and joined the church in two months' time than any two months of the pastor's ministry.
Truly God's plan works! Prayer with fasting is the most powerful weapon God has placed in the hands of man to bind and hold back the powers of darkness and to advance the cause of Christ. Nothing stirs the devil like God's people using that weapon. For that reason it is of great importance to obey James 4:7: "Submit to God" and "Resist the devil."
"When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly" (Matt. 6:6).
We should all give time, much time each day to sincere prayer. The important thing about secret prayer is the listening side. Get quiet. Let God speak to you.
"When thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly" (Matt. 6:17-18).
To observe and enlist others in fasting it is good to begin by fasting one meal a week. The time may vary from week to week. When a person begins to realize the unexplainable, unbelievable, untold benefits physically, mentally and spiritually which come by regular fasting, there comes a desire to observe it more often. Fasting sweeps away the excuse for not having time for you are using the time you would take to eat.
To observe prayer and fasting with others, a good plan is to meet at the church one-half hour or an hour before an evening service. Those who cannot be there should be encouraged to observe it at home. Each person enlisted in prayer and fasting adds so much power to the church and should be enlisted. The young, the old, the shut-in, the non-resident members and friends, from any church or no church – all should unite in prayer and fasting for a great spiritual awakening!
The above suggestions for prayer and fasting alone or with others can take place without adding machinery, increasing the budget, attending conventions, taking much time and effort and without tension, frustration and anxiety. Just announce it! God is working in a remarkable way where similar plans as here suggested are being carried through.
"What is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matt. 16:26). If the entire church world would be faithful in Bible prayer and fasting and if that would result in keeping souls out of an awful hell, it would be worth it a thousand, million times. May God have mercy upon us and help us to act like we believe in immortality!
