The Power Of Jesus' Name

By J. C. Metcalfe

The Name of Jesus is a powerful offensive weapon against Satan. "I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her" cries Paul to the evil spirit in possession of the damsel at Philippi (Acts 16:18), and the Name of the mighty Conqueror is sufficient to put each emissary of Satan to flight.

We can remember with joy and confident boldness that, "God hath highly exalted Him (Jesus) and given Him the name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth…" (Phil. 2:9-10). Satan is not exempt: the Name of our dear Saviour – the Lord Jesus Christ – sounded out, exalted, extolled, means fear in the kingdom of evil; and just as the demons always admitted and bowed to His authority in the day of His flesh, so now the Prince of Darkness himself, and all his principalities and power, must give way before that mighty, all-victorious Name!
