Our Only Hope!
"Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord."
Things were really desperate when Jeremiah wrote thus (Lam. 3:40). Jerusalem and the temple were in ruins, the nation was in captivity, famine and pestilence were rampant, God's hand was heavy on His people for their sins. Their only hope was in repentance and turning back to God.
Many Christians believe that the only hope for our beloved land is revival among God's own people. Many, indeed, are praying to this end – in national days of prayer, in "congresses" and "festivals" of prayer and evangelism, in "strategy-planning" consultation of leaders of movements. But it is one thing to "pray for revival," on whatever scale, and quite another thing to "search and try our ways," and to turn individually and personally to the Lord, in repentance and confession of whatever hinders His work in us!
