We Can – We Must – Focus On Revival!
By Sarah Foulkes Moore
Faith acts on the Word of God. In His Word, Christ promises, "If two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of My Father which is in heaven" (Matt. 18:19).
In union there is strength. Pressure creates power. The Lord said to His disciples, "Ye are the light of the world." The rays of the sun diffused over the earth give light and heat but do not burn. Whereas these same rays brought to a focus burn and blaze into flame. How are light rays brought to a focus except by directing the whole operation on one point?
Prayer Focused, Fire Falls
Scripturally speaking, Christ attained this focus in prayer by assembling His disciples in the Upper Room in one accord, in one place. For "These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women" (Acts 1:14). By this united focus of spiritual continuity and intensity, fire was drawn off heaven's flaming altar to kindle the altars of the church of God on earth.
The tense, extraordinary, world crisis makes imperative now by means both small and great that God's true people, rich and poor, educated and uneducated, be united in seeking Him till He come and rain righteousness upon us (Hos. 10:12; Joel 2:12-17). Prayer for an immediate, mighty work of God that will militate against the powers of unrighteousness everywhere at work, must be focused.
And how? Christ tells us. "If two agree it shall be done." Despise not the day of small things! Join yourself to every church prayer meeting. Assemble yourself with every neighborhood prayer group. To this spiritual intensity and activity unite yourself to a prayer partner and lay hold of God in His Word (Matt. 18:19).
In this hour of sleep and sloth and ease in Zion, this praying will not come as a matter of course. To stir things mightily for God today requires Herculean effort.
Join Yourself to a Prayer Partner
"It shall be done!" How? "By two agreeing!" In every church, in every neighborhood, if not in every home, there are two people of God who can agree in going to God in prayer. Think what would happen if, all over this dear land of ours, the "twos" got down to business with God and prayed through on the promise. "It shall be done!" This kind of faith, this kind of obedience, this kind of never-say-die, never-let-go in prayer would again witness kingdoms subdued, righteousness wrought, promises obtained and the armies of the aliens turned to flight!
O brother, O sister, victory depends upon you and me and all those who love the Lord in sincerity, getting down low ourselves before God and challenging Him for His own glory and for the sake of revival among His own people to answer prayer and hasten His Word to perform it (Jer. 1:12).
Don't look to others! Don't spare yourself! "Gather My saints together unto Me; those that have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice" (Psa. 50:5). "Units of prayer, combined like drops of water make an ocean which defies resistance." Think how things would be stirred for God if all who read these lines would truly humble themselves, lay aside all controversy with God and set themselves to obey His Word to the full! Consider what a mighty revival of prayer would ensue if every man and woman of faith would act on the promise, "If two agree…it shall be done!"
Inasmuch as revival, worldwide, nation-wide, church-wide is God's remedy for today's ill, if every prayer was focused on revival, the heavens would soon be rent and the skies would drop down righteousness.
Partnership by Prayer
In a heroic effort to focus prayer in a gathering intensity that will make it an irresistible force, we ask in the secret closet of prayer, in the public prayer meetings, in prayer-partnerships – that people and preacher of God agree – Matthew 18:19 – to pray through daily, hourly, for an immediate, mighty work of God as following:
Pray for the president and for all in authority – 1 Timothy 2:1-2
Pray for all men – 1 Timothy 2:1-4
Pray for all saints – Ephesians 6:18
Pray for revival, church-wide – Joel 2:17
Pray for revival, nation-wide – 2 Chronicles 7:14
Pray for the spiritual defense of America and the world, praying for all men in uniform, every soldier, sailor, marine, airman in this and every land.
Hourly, daily lift your heart in prayer wherever you are, praying for a mighty work of God in the camps and wherever the men in uniform are found. Pray for loved ones at home (Acts 16:31; Isa. 49:25). And last, but not least, let every child of God in this hour portentous with signs of the Lord's imminent returning, watch and pray as the Lord has commanded in Luke 21:34-36.
Add to your praying, fasting. In every way at your command seek by prayer and example to meet God's righteous requirement for His immediate working in Second Chronicles 7:14.
