God’s Heart-Searching Light

By Charlie Orr

“...For the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God” (2 Chr. 5:14).

The church desperately needs the return of God’s glory.  We have been content with the absence of His mighty presence too long.  Perhaps we are totally ignorant of His departure because we have rarely experienced the manifestation of Holy God in our midst.

Throughout Scripture, we are reminded of the ramifications of the presence of God.  One obvious result is deep conviction of sin gripping the hearts of God’s people.

    A. T. Pierson states, “We must not be surprised if the communion with God that reveals Him unveils ourselves.  ‘Whatsoever doth make manifest is light’ (Eph. 5:13).  And if we linger long before that Shekinah fire, which makes the golden wings and faces of the cherubim shine, it will pierce through every disguise and show us the very thoughts and intents of the heart.  The sword of flame will pierce to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit.

“Daniel was so faultless that even enemies could find nothing in him to accuse save his faith in God and his unceasing prayer; yet, in the presence of the searchlight of that Glory, he beheld even his ‘comeliness was turned…into corruption’ (Dan. 10:8).  Isaiah in that Presence, cried, ‘Woe is me...because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips:  for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts’ (Isa. 6:5).

“Peter, under such self-exposure, fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, ‘Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord’ (Luke 5:8).  But all such self-revelation and self-condemnation only brings blessing, for it is the result of a divine vision!”

If biblical revival comes, it must proceed from a supernatural manifestation of the presence of God.  When He comes, sin is revealed, self is routed, and Satan is ruined.  May we seek the Lord while He may be found and call on Him while He may be near.
