Giving The Word Of God

  By Lois J. Stucky

Our Lord Jesus Christ said:  “...He that heareth My Word and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24).  Those who hear, believe and obey the Word of the Lord pass from death unto life, and become heirs of eternal life! (John 3:16).  What greater blessings could Christians ask?

And many gladly testify of the gains they meet with as they travel through their earthly lives as they appropriate the promises of God’s Word and submit to the corrections and obey the instructions found therein:  destructive pitfalls and shame avoided, forgiveness for sins granted to the repentant, conscience cleared, fears dissolved, sorrows comforted, guidance given, wisdom obtained, hope kept alive and growing, joys kindled to overflowing, peace in the midst of storms, zeal inspired to useful service, and on and on goes the list.  Through the Word we come to know and experience the wonderful Father, Son and Holy Spirit in more and more intimate ways.  Great, great thanks is due our God for His Word – the blessed revelation of Himself and His ways!

Our Lord Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My Words shall not pass away” (Matt. 24:35).  As the hymn says, “How firm a foundation is laid for your faith in His excellent Word….”   Surely Christians need a firm foundation in these days when much is sliding downward, crumbling into the dust or proving false.

And does not the Spirit of God move our hearts to share this wonderful Word as far and wide as He enables?  The love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Spirit does not let us be content to hug such treasure to ourselves when so many have a hunger for it and languish or perish without it.  God has bountifully blessed us that we might be a blessing to others.

All glory to Him whose Life is in His Word to make it nourishing and strengthening to His church!  He is preparing the bride for the Bridegroom, His beloved Son.
