Praying In Our Families For Lost People
By Kim Butts
In family prayers at our house, we pray for two groups of lost people. The first group includes our unsaved family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. The second group includes unsaved people to the ends of the earth! The Lord has given us a God-sized vision of His desire. He is a loving Father “who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2:4). He has placed on our hearts a love for lost people.
Does your family have this God-sized vision for lost people? Would you like to begin praying for the Lord to reach into many lives and stir their hearts so that they might be drawn to His love and seek salvation? God’s Word contains the prayers of faith that can make this possible. As you pray, the Lord will begin to place a passion in your hearts for the lost. Who knows what God can do in and through one family that gets serious about prayer on a Great Commission level? I can promise you that your prayers will make a difference, and that because you pray…God will answer…and lost people will come to a knowledge of His truth. Isn’t that an amazing thing? Your family’s prayers can impact lost people near and far – people you know, and those who live in the farthest corners of the earth.
Use these prayers, or let them help you to pray in a powerful way for the lost. Feel free to put in the name(s) of a nation, people group, or even unsaved family and friends.
“...With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God” (Mark 10:27). Father, we praise You because Your wonderful grace makes it possible for all people everywhere to be saved!
“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Cor. 4:4). Gracious Lord, we ask that You would remove the blinders that keep unbelievers from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ!
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him...” (John 6:44). Wonderful King, would You draw __________ to Yourself? Please cause his heart to be stirred by Your Spirit, so that he knows who You are!
“When He [the Holy Spirit] comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment...” (John 16:8). Heavenly Father, many people are lost in sin. Would You cause them to recognize what they are doing and help them to repent so that they can receive Your blessed forgiveness and salvation?
“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Pet. 3:9). We give You thanks, O Lord, for being such a patient, long-suffering God. Thank You for loving all people so very much that You don’t want to lose any of them!
“O You who hear prayer, to You all men will come” (Psa. 65:2). Father, we praise You as the only One who hears our prayers and answers them. Help us to be faithful to bring the names of those who are lost before You.
“Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done. Sing…praise to Him; tell of all His wonderful acts. Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always” (1 Chr. 16:8-11). Lord, we give thanks to You! Help us to boldly tell unbelievers about all You have done in our lives. May we glory in Your holy name and constantly seek Your face in prayer so that in Your strength we can reach out to the lost.
“You are the God who performs miracles; You display Your power among the peoples” (Psa. 77:14). Father God, display Your mighty power among the peoples, and perform miracles that will show unbelievers without a doubt who You are! Do amazing things in our midst! Make Yourself known to all!
“Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol Him, all you peoples. For great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever...” (Psa. 117). Father, please reach into the lives of the lost so that they might see Your great love for them and know that Your faithfulness endures forever!
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come” (Matt. 24:14). We pray for the Gospel to be preached to the whole world, that we might see Your glorious return! May many people respond and be saved!
“After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: ‘Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb’” (Rev. 7:9-10). Gracious God, how we give You praise that You desire to see people from every nation, tribe, people and language standing before You! Come soon, Lord Jesus!
