Lord, Stir Revival Fire In Us!
By Rich Carmicheal
The United States is at a major moral crisis point. This nation, so blessed throughout her history with much gospel light, is openly rejecting that light and reaching the condition described in the first chapter of the Book of Romans: "…Even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened" (v. 21).
Consider, for example, the foundational issue of marriage. The Lord, through His creative design and through the clear teaching of His Word, could not express any more explicitly that He regards marriage as a sacred institution between one man and one woman. Nations and cultures have known this for thousands of years. And yet, many people in the U.S. are rebelling against what God has so clearly established.
The fact that this could even be an issue reveals how far this nation has fallen spiritually and morally. All that is left is for the Lord to give this nation over to her sin and to bring judgment upon her – that is, unless God’s people respond! He is looking to His people to lead the way in humility, prayer and repentance (2 Chr. 7:14). He is calling us to shake off complacency and self-centeredness, and to be filled with His Spirit, His truth and His love. We are to appear as lights in the midst of this perverse and crooked generation as we hold forth His Word (Phil. 2:15-16).
With that in mind, the Herald staff hopes the Lord works through the messages in this issue to stir a fire in you (and in us). The Lord wants this nation, and every nation, to come to repentance and experience spiritual awakening. Where will such revival start? What could happen in the days ahead if you and I consecrate ourselves fully to Him and His purposes?
