God’s Word Shines As A Bright Light In A Darkening Hour

By Lois J. Stucky (1928 2014)

God’s first spoken words recorded for us are: "Let there be light" (Gen. 1:3). How important is light! Light shows us the way to take. It dispels the fear and danger of darkness. It comforts, cheers and reassures. It fosters life and health and growth.

Evil loves darkness. It flourishes in the darkness. Only the coming of Light can dispel the darkness. How important, then, that we hold high the light of God’s Word in this hour of increasing darkness!

God’s Word Endures Forever

God’s Word is not a flickering torch that might go out at any time. It is an Eternal Flame preserved by an Eternal God – preserved in all its beauty and brightness and vitality for ever and for ever!

Thank God for the great dissemination of the Word of God going on today – through printed page, through radio and TV, through zealous messengers who take it at jet speed around the world. Still – the darkness comes on a-pace! With the increase of the antichrist spirit, stronger efforts are made to do away with the Word of God – either by making the Bible a forbidden book or by more subtly robbing it of its original meaning and power.

But the forces of darkness can never take away the Word of God that has been planted deep within the hearts of God’s people! To those who "eat" of it daily, it becomes an integral part of their being. Though the Bible be snatched from their hands, the Word of God cannot be taken from their hearts!

The printed Word of God, Christian friend, is yet our privilege not only to have and to cherish and to follow, but to share with multitudes around the world who are groping in darkness! Oh thank God! Let us not take this privilege lightly. Let us give diligence to hide God’s Word in our own hearts by frequent reading and by memorization. Let us take advantage of today’s great opportunities to spread the Word widely. Many to whom we can minister the Word today perhaps will be beyond our reach tomorrow.

Let us bear in mind: buildings will crumble; cities will turn to ashes; civilizations will pass away. But the Word of God will endure for ever! Let us then invest wisely! Let us put heart, soul, time, strength and money into sending forth the blessed Word of Life Eternal!

How important that we Christians go everywhere preaching the True Word of God! Let us pray that God will lead us to the hearts of "good ground" so that the seed sown will bring forth much fruit (see Matthew 13:8). But let us sow widely, knowing that he which "soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully" (2 Cor. 9:6) – gathering "fruit unto life eternal" (John 4:36). "He that winneth souls is wise" (Prov. 11:30).

Praise God . . .

That He has shined into our hearts with the blessed light of the Gospel, dispelling the darkness and imparting His life.

For friends who write us saying, "I am praying for you," and the way God gives His help in answer to these prayers.

Please PRAY . . .

That God will prosper all efforts to reach the unreached peoples of the world with the true Gospel.

For the love of Christ to be shed abroad in the hearts of God’s people – that selfishness, laziness and ease will be replaced with zeal to spread God’s Word and to win souls for Christ.
