Trusting In God’s Faithfulness

By Rich Carmicheal

The Bible has many references to God’s faithfulness. Consider, for example, these precious reminders:

"Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; He is the faithful God…" (Deut. 7:9).

    "…the Lord…remains faithful forever" (Psa. 146:6).

"…The Lord is faithful to all His promises…" (Psa. 145:13).

"…He is faithful in all He does" (Psa. 33:4).

"…Your faithfulness reaches to the skies" (Psa. 57:10).

"But You, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God…abounding in love and faithfulness" (Psa. 86:15).

"He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart" (Psa. 91:4).

"For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations" (Psa. 100:5).

"…the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever" (Psa. 117:2).

"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful" (Heb. 10:23).

"But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one" (2 Thess. 3:3).

"God, who has called you into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful" (1 Cor. 1:9).

"…God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear…" (1 Cor. 10:13).

"The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it" (1 Thess. 5:24).

"If we are faithless, He will remain faithful, for He cannot disown Himself" (2 Tim. 2:13).

"…those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good" (1 Pet. 4:19).

Why do you suppose Scripture has so many descriptions and reminders of God’s faithfulness? There are probably at least two main reasons. First of all, faithfulness is an integral part of God’s nature and character, and therefore is worthy to be exalted in His Word. God alone is God and He is perfect in all He is and all that He does. Any truth about Him and His nature and character is worthy of repeating and admiring over and over!

A second reason for the emphasis on God’s faithfulness may be the great need we have to be reminded that God is indeed faithful. If you are like me, you may often find yourself in situations that are bigger than you – situations in which you must have the Lord’s help. In such cases, passages about God’s faithfulness build faith, confidence and hope! I offer thanksgiving and praise to the Lord that He has showed His faithfulness to me over and over again! I also thank and praise the Lord that He has showed His faithfulness to the ministry of Herald of His Coming again and again.

The Lord Works Through Our Faith

In order to encourage you in trusting in the Lord’s faithfulness, whether it be in reference to the Herald ministry or in reference to matters in your own life or ministry, I encourage you to meditate on the opening passages that emphasize His faithfulness. You will also be strengthened in faith as you take to heart the following passages that illustrate how He is gracious to work through faith:

"...I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you" (Matt. 17:20).

"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (Mark 11:24).

"...Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld..." (2 Chron. 20:20).

"When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.... I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home’" (Mark 2:5,11).

"Everything is possible for him who believes" (Mark 9:23).

"Then Jesus said to the centurion, ‘Go! It will be done just as you believed it would’" (Matt. 8:13).

"Then Jesus answered, ‘Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted!’" (Matt. 15:28).

"...According to your faith will it be done to you" (Matt. 9:29).

"[Jesus] said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you...’" (Mark 5:34).

"Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations..." (Rom. 4:18).

"By faith Abraham, even though he was past age – and Sarah herself was barren – was enabled to become a father because he considered Him faithful who had made the promise" (Heb. 11:11).

"By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land..." (Heb. 11:29).

"By faith the walls of Jericho fell...." (Heb. 11:30).

"...Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies" (Heb. 11:32-34).

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. ...And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him" (Heb. 11:1-2, 6).

"...for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith" (1 John 5:4).
